BEL Interview Experience – ECE Discipline

I am from Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and had appeared for a BEL interview at the BEL Ghaziabad unit.

The interview panel consisted of 4 members, and they were quite friendly throughout the process.

The session began with a request for a brief self-introduction, where I shared details about my academic background. From there, they asked a few personal questions related to my schooling, family, and hometown (Siliguri, West Bengal).

Next, one of the interviewers asked me to mention the topics I was most comfortable with. I responded with Radar, Antennas, and Communication Systems.

They then handed me two white sheets and a pen, and the technical round began with the following questions:

  • Draw the basic block diagram of a Radar system.
  • From the diagram, explain the Duplexer and its working principle.
  • What is the full form of MTI?
  • What is MTI, and how does it work?
  • Uses of Optical Fiber Communication.
  • Frequency range in which optical fiber communication is used.
  • Frequency ranges of skywave, groundwave, etc.
  • Purpose of regenerative repeaters.
  • Difference between transmission lines and waveguides.
  • Concept of skin depth.
  • Working of a P-I-N diode.
  • A question related to the Doppler effect.
  • They pointed to a bulb in the room and asked about its current rating.
  • One additional question from basic electrical concepts (which I don’t recall exactly).

After the technical questions, we had a light, informal discussion for 3–4 minutes, and then I was asked to leave.

Key Takeaway:

  • Language is not a barrier in BEL interviews. If you are not comfortable in English, you can confidently speak in Hindi.

Hope this helps future aspirants!
